FAQ
How much will it cost to paint (insert miniature project here)?
Every project has a lot of variables. Because of this I quote each project individually and don't keep a menu of prices. If you want to know what it will cost to paint your miniature(s) just use the contact form on this site to get in touch with me. To make the process go as quickly as possible, I'll want to know the following:
- Specifically which miniatures you want painted.
- Will I need to supply the miniatures, or will you send them to me (FYI - I offer a 20% discount off the the retail value of most major brands of miniatures if you have me pick them up for you for a painting project).
- Is there anything specific in terms of paint or do you just want it to look like the studio paint?
- Do you require special base work or will a general flocking treatment be fine?
Do you do conversions?
Yes and no. It's not my forte' but I can do basic weapons swaps, magnet work, things like that. If you want major conversions you might want to have that done by somebody who's better at it than I am.
How soon will it be done?
Obviously the time involved will depend on the project. It will also depend on what is currently ahead of you in the schedule. At any given time it's likely that I'll have 1-2 months on my plate already. If you want to get in the queue I will need a deposit of 50% of the project cost. I can't guarantee your place in line until I receive the deposit. At any given time I'm discussing new projects with several people - all of whom could put down their deposit before you do.
As for the time involved in finishing your project, I'm actually fairly fast. You can look at some of my YouTube videos to get a sense of the time it has taken for past projects. Still, this is a part-time gig for me. I usually devote a couple of full days a week to painting and a little time here and there the rest of the week. I will give you an estimate for the time involved but this is not a guarantee.
Will you be doing videos and photos of my project?
Unless you specifically request otherwise, then I probably will. Short projects may not get videos but they will be photographed. Longer projects will almost certainly get video. With the videos you don't have to wait and wonder how the project is going because you'll be able to get updates weekly (or more often!). All of my customers so far have loved this service.
What do you prefer to paint?
I'm sure that you can tell from my photos that I tend towards 28mm Fantasy/Scifi. It's what I'm most comfortable with but it's not the only thing that I have done. I really enjoy doing vehicles (and I don't get to do nearly enough of them) and I like terrain pieces as well. I even do the odd historical project.
Do you have different painting "levels"?
I paint how I paint. When you hire me to paint your miniatures I will paint to a high standard. It's display quality. I might charge more for extra flourishes or custom decals but I won't compromise my standard to fit a lower budget. I wouldn't be happy with the results and I don't send out anything that I'm not happy with. If you're interested in "quick and dirty" I would be happy to recommend other painting services would could accommodate your needs.
